Cha Bar – Oxford Book Store – New Menu Launch

Oxford Bookstore, Park Street has a very special space in my heart. It was the first bookstore I visited where I can actually browse through the collection and read few pages of a book before deciding whether to buy it. When we were young the luxury of doing so was only available with the second hand book shops. Later I also used to buy diaries and handmade paper notebooks from them. When, around 2000, they introduced the Cha Bar inside the bookstore, it became yet another reason to visit the place. So, when I got an invitation from them to attend Flavothon, a bloggers meet to try out their newly launched menu, it was a great moment for me.

The new menu

Cha Bar, with its huge range of 150 plus varieties of tea, also serves a wide selection of savories to take care of the hunger pangs. Recently they have updated their menu and have added some new items. From salads to sandwiches, wraps and burgers, the list is quite long. We were welcomed by Ms Nilanjana Dey, PR, Oxford Bookstore and received the new menu wrapped beautifully in a red ribbon. We were soon joined by Mr Nitin Warikoo, Head, Cha Bar, who flew all the way from Delhi to host the event.

Smoked Chicken and Mustard Sandwich

Smoked Chicken and Mustard Sandwich

The evening began with Smoked Chicken and Mustard Sandwich. Made with shredded chicken and with a thick filling, you will love this one if you like a mayo and English mustard filled sandwich.

Chilli Chicken Wrap

Next to follow was the Chilli Chicken Wrap. Now, if you are a true Calcuttan and love your rolls, you might think why should I have a wrap here, when there are some iconic stalls nearby. Believe me, you will change your mind after you taste this. Not because it is better, but because it is different. You should not compare the two as they might look similar, but tastes completely different. The filling is Indian Chinese with a twist in the sauce. The sweet chilli sauce added an occasional sweetness, and made it of my favourites that evening. It was filling too.

Bun Kebab

Bun Kebab

If you love burgers, you should try their Bun Kebab, Bun Tikka or Bun Omelette. While the first is made with mutton galouti kebab, the second one has spiced potato tikka. Simple dishes with desi twists. If only they replace the mayo on the bun kebab with the mint kebab chutney (it is served along with the berger) it will be better.

Celery Chicken Club sandwich

The Celery Chicken Club that followed, apart from chicken and celery, had boiled eggs and mayo along with crispy french fries. It will take care of you if you are really hungry. Really filling and tastes great too.

Three Chilli Cheese Toasties

Another dish that I liked a lot was the Three Chilli Cheese Toasties. Bell Peppers, Onion, Chillies and loads of Cheese, what else do you need? Loved it.

Barbequed Chicken Sausages

Barbequed Chicken Sausages

The last dish we tried was really simple but addictive. Barbequed Chicken Sausages had juicy, tasty sausages and a flavourful sauce. No doubt it vanished within seconds of arriving at the table.

I was full by this time, but there were more items in their new menu. If you are nearby drop in at Cha Bar to enjoy the new menu and the casual, laid back ambiance.

The fun filled evening ended with another surprise from the hosts. We were presented with a Typhoo Tea Treasures assorted green teas gift box. It has exotic flavours like Moroccan Mint, Coconut, Lemongrass to name a few. Looking forward to try these soon. Thanks Typhoo for the gift.
